NASHVILLE – WeGo Public Transit, the city of Murfreesboro, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) are celebrating the opening of a new Park and Ride at the Murfreesboro Transit Center. The facility serves WeGo Route 84 Murfreesboro express bus service to and from Nashville. This new, permanent location provides residents with 75 parking spaces and easy connection to Murfreesboro Transit options, creating a first of its kind regional connectivity hub in Middle Tennessee.

“We are pleased to be partnering with WeGo Public Transit in providing convenient access to transportation services to and from Nashville,” Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland said. “This new Park and Ride adjacent to our Murfreesboro Transit Center is a perfect example of collaboration and partnerships to provide enhanced mobility to jobs, medical appointments, shopping, and entertainment in both cities and the Middle Tennessee region. This is what integrated transit is all about—a more connected and accessible transportation system.”

“When we heard that Murfreesboro was investing in a new transit center and better transit service, we knew that a new WeGo Park and Ride would be a great addition. People can relax on a comfortable coach bus, rather than driving. It’s a popular service because our operators can handle the headaches of rush hour on I-24 for you,” WeGo CEO Steve Bland said.

WeGo has served Rutherford County for many years with express bus service, including a stop at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). The goal is to create more opportunities for Middle Tennesseans to access education and employment without transportation standing in the way. Transit can also connect residents with fun activities. WeGo’s partnership with the Nashville Soccer Club provides express bus service to weekend matches at GEODIS Park.

WeGo operates regional express buses and the WeGo Star to connect fast-growing suburbs with Nashville. The Murfreesboro Park and Ride is a model for what could be done in partnership with other suburban cities surrounding Nashville to strengthen our regional transportation network, as first identified in the 2016 nMotion Strategic Plan.

“Expanding multimodal options is essential to keeping Tennesseans connected, our economy strong, and our communities moving,” said TDOT Deputy Commissioner Preston Elliott. “This new Park and Ride facility demonstrates what’s possible when state, regional, and local partners work together to deliver practical, people-focused transportation solutions. Its proximity to the Murfreesboro Transit Center further enhances the convenience and connectivity this project provides for daily commuters. With TDOT’s $1.3 million investment through the IMPROVE Transit Investment Grant, we’re creating a regional hub that supports commuters today and lays the groundwork for tomorrow’s mobility needs. As we advance the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project from Nashville to Murfreesboro, we’re making the single biggest investment to improve travel reliability and give transit a competitive, time‑saving advantage. These partnerships—and the multimodal choices they unlock—are how we move the needle for Middle Tennessee.”

The new Park and Ride is located at 725 Bridge Avenue, next to the Murfreesboro Transit Center. For details on Route 84 service between Nashville and Murfreesboro, visit the WeGo website.
