NASHVILLE – WeGo Public Transit is extending the public comment period to August 18 and adding a new virtual meeting on August 11 regarding an update to its Title VI and Public Participation Plans.
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a Federal law that protects persons from discrimination based on their race, color or national origin in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance. WeGo Public Transit Title VI policy is intended to ensure equity and equal access in the provision of public transportation services in Davidson County regardless of race, national origin, or income. This includes ensuring that any changes to service or fares do not create a disparate impact on minority populations or place a disproportionate burden on low-income populations.
In response to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements, the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee (RTA), doing business as WeGo Public Transit, have developed documents that demonstrate how the agencies are complying with Title VI requirements. Recipients of federal funding must submit their Title VI Plans to the FTA every three years. The current WeGo Title VI Plans were approved by the respective Boards, along with the WeGo Public Participation Plan. WeGo is soliciting community input for updates to the plans.
WeGo staff will present draft copies of the plans at the public meeting. In addition, the plans may be viewed online at WeGoTransit.com.
